What to Expect at CBC
Are you looking for a church in the Southern Oregon area? Well, then you probably have lots of questions. You want a church that's a good fit for you and your family in many ways. I'm sure you are thinking about things like location, preaching, music style, different ministries, age groups in the church, denominational affiliations as well as a lot of other things. So what can you expect to find at Community Bible Church of Central Point?
Let's begin with the basics and see if we can answer some of your questions here:
Is CBC part of a denomination or affiliated with one?
CBC is a non-denominational Bible church, meaning we seek the answers to our questions straight from the Bible, so we are not under the authority of a denominational council or organization. People often want to discuss and argue based on their opinions, their personal history, and the traditions on which they were raised. These can all be valuable tools but we must first seek what the Word tells us. Truth is truth and the Bible is the ultimate source of that truth. That's where we seek our directions and our answers.
What kind of people will I find at your church?
Hopefully, you will find all kinds! We work very hard to be a church family so, like a real family, we are multi generational. We have young families with babies and we have senior citizens and everybody in-between. We have many blue-collar people as well as white-collar people. We have many people who are new to faith in Jesus Christ and are experiencing church life for the first time as well as those who have been raised in the church their entire lives, some for over 8 decades! We recognize the importance and value in all of these groups to each other and to the health of the church. You will find people you can relate to here at CBC. Being a Family Page
Where is Community Bible Church?
We are located in Central Point, which is located right in the heart of the Rogue Valley of Southern Oregon. We are just off Interstate-5, north of Medford, 35 miles from the California boarder. (map of Oregon) Our location makes us only a very short drive from most locations in the greater Rogue Valley.
What kind of Ministries to you offer?
We work very hard to be a diverse church, so we have all kinds of ministries for all kinds of people. We have ministries for all ages, from birth to our senior saints. We have a great Children's Ministry Department (Children's Ministries) as well as a fantastic Youth Program (Youth) and Adult Education Programs (Adult Fellowships). We have prayer groups, fellowship groups, encouragement groups and many others. We have classes for people new to the whole church experience and an understanding of God and Jesus Christ as well as classes for people who want to go much deeper. We have ministries just for women and ministries just for men. If you desire to grow closer to God in knowledge and fellowship with other Believers, we have ministries for you.
What's the music like?
We go to great lengths to be a church family and, like with all families, not everybody likes the same kind of music. Therefore, we have a variety of worship music styles. Sometimes, the worship music is very traditional. Sometimes it is much more contemporary. Sometimes it has a southern gospel flair. Most of the time, it is a good combination of them all. The most important part about our worship music sets, and something we insist upon with all our musicians, singers, and worship leaders, is that the music is God honoring, God centered, and God worshiping. That, after all, is the purpose of the music and singing.
When are your services?
We have three worship services:
Saturday evenings at 6:00
Sunday morning at 9:00
Sunday morning at 10:45
While each service has developed its own 'personality' we do not tailor or flavor the services differently. Nursery and children's ministries up through 4th grade are available at all three services. Youth and adult ministries are available during the two Sunday morning service times.
What can I expect if I visit?
From the very beginning, you can expect to be treated warmly. You will be greeted at the doors with a smile and a handshake by a person willing to guide you in the right direction. There is a Welcoming Desk staffed by people willing and able to answer all your questions and assist you in any way you need. You can expect solid teaching directly from God's Word in the preaching during the Worship Services as well as in the different Sunday School and Fellowship classes. You can expect to find a variety of ways to get more involved and more connected. You can expect us to follow up your visit to see if you have any questions or concerns and to see if there is anything we can do to assist you in your quest for a church home. Most importantly, you can expect to find Jesus Christ the center of all we do and how we treat everybody who comes through our doors.
Will my kids and family be safe and secure?
We have put a lot of research, time and effort into insuring the safety and security of our church family, especially our kids. From computerized registration and specific check in and check out procedures to having designated security and emergency aware staff moving within the building, security and safety is a very high priority at CBC.
What will be expected of me if I choose to make CBC my Church Home?
If you chose to join our church family, you can expect three things to be asked of you:
1. To begin with, your growth in knowledge and application of God's Word in your life is our highest priority. It will be important for you to do more than just attend a worship service once a week. You will be strongly encouraged to get involved in other ministries that will allow you to fellowship with other Believers, to become connected as a family, and to grow in your Biblical understanding and commitment.
2. The Bible is very clear that Believers have a responsibility to each other. If you are to obey and serve Christ, you are going to love and serve each other. Therefore, you will be provided many opportunities to use your God-given gifts and talents by getting involved. That means, along with asking you to be part of ministries where you are served, you will be encouraged to get involved with a ministry where you can use your abilities and time to serve others. At CBC, we have many many ways for you to get involved and serve others. Everywhere from rocking babies in the nursery to teaching a Sunday School class to making coffee on Sunday morning to driving the bus to church camp. We all make up one body and every member of that body needs each other.
3. Finally, you will be expected to grow and mature as a follower of Christ. That means letting the Holy Spirit work within you to shape and mold you into the person God wants you to become. Often, that will mean getting out of your comfort zone and taking risks. That may involve making changes in your life so God can be more in control.
